Damianas: Classic Filipino Cuisine in Legazpi Village

Our office decided to do its own version for "Thanksgiving" to celebrate or be thankful for the good things that happened to us in the recent weeks. We were supposed to grab lunch over at Cerveseria at Greenbelt 3, but due to the sudden downpour of rain, we opted to go someplace nearer... like literally across the street from our office along C. Palanca.

Damianas had been around for quite a while and I've enjoyed the past few times I dined there myself. Of course, the only problem with eating alone is that you could only sample a limited number of items. Thankfully, there were now 11 of us!

We were here around 12PM, which was still relatively empty to my surprise. As it would turn out, by 12:30PM the restaurant would be packed! Since there were 11 of us dining here, we decided to order two sets of the stuff you'll now see below:

I've always enjoyed bistek tagalog, and this was no difference. I'm more used to seeing white onions on top of my bistek tagalog, but this was pretty welcome as well. As with all good versions of bistek tagalog, the meat was tender, the sauce was just the right blend, and the onions were sautéed just the right way - to the point that it wasn't too strong at all!

I've always enjoyed gising gising, and this was no different. I have no qualms about the dish... though I think I was expecting it to be in the form or really chopped string beans. But hey, this is their take on it and it was pretty accurate in terms of taste!

Bicol express has always been one of my all-time favorite Filipino dishes and I enjoyed this one too. Through time, I've encountered Bicol express that were really spicy... not this one! Though it may look like it's not it's not the typical coconut milk-covered dish we're used to, the taste is still pretty spot on!

I think the only real attention-grabbing dish that came was the thrice cooked adobo! It had this certain wow factor once it hit our table (you know how people from another table would react "Whoa, what's that?").... imagine that happening on your very table but then it's for you.

In this particular scenario, I wished I wasn't part of a larger group... so that I could have more of this dish for myself. It tasted really great... it was savoury, and I would've loved to try each of the sauces. Next time, I'm ordering this again... and probably just have at most one other person to share this with me. I highly recommend this dish!

You could never go wrong with tortang talong for me... and what I liked about my first bite of this dish was you could taste the charcoal-grilled eggplant inside. And oh, the tortang talong didn't appear overly soggy and that it was well-coated with an egg batter... which I really loved with how they executed this dish! Ordering this again.

Sinigang na bangus~ it was nice that they separated it so that you wouldn't end up search-scooping through the bowl to find the viands inside the sinigang. I have to say, the milkfish was really tender~ I suppose it was intentionally done to separate the fish from the soup to prevent it from overcooking.

For the broth, it was a bit (too) sour for me but it packs a punch each time. Not entirely that bad!

The squid sisig came last to our table... and by the time it arrived, I think everyone was full. I tried it... and I liked it. You might think that since it's squid you'd probably feel less guilty than eating pork haha... but it isn't all that true. The amount of mayonnaise used in this dish is quite a lot. So if you like your sisig really creamy, this is the way to go.  I actually enjoyed this sisig a lot, though I wish I had the usual liquid seasoning and Tabasco sauce that we usually put on these things.

Overall, I'd go back here to Damianas. They've been really consistent with the food the past number of times I've eaten there and I was really happy to finally sample a whole lot more in one go! Til next time!
