We were catching a movie at Cinema Square and we thought it would be best to grab dinner nearby or in the building itself. We've practically tried everything in the building before... Fireside, Mad Marks, etc. So we thought why not try something else for a change. We saw La Provence from afar... and decided to come in for a closer look.
To be honest, I got really confused. I thought that the tables outside were for Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf (I thought it was... but later there were placemats for La Provence), and the closer I got to La Provence, I still wasn't sure whether it had a cafe or not. They had a large piece of signage outside, but the closer you went, it only displayed services of the salon.
Before I could walk away, Sarah decided to sit down. And that's how we finally ended up here! I have to say, they have really nice interiors. I liked the tile floor... as well as the chairs in their own small cafe. We had a look at the menu and it really wasn't much of a selection (if you're looking for heavier lunch or dinner items, this really isn't the place).
The categories on the menu only revolved around sweet and savoury crepes, as well as a few paninis. We decided to get one panini, and one sweet crepe.
So apparently, this fromage (cheese) panini we got was an open-faced one. I suppose what really surprised me was the amount of herbs sprinkled on our plate. Like it literally looked it was wayyyyy too much. The first thing I tried was the potato chips... it was nice. It felt like I was eating one of those salted egg chips. It had a nice, coated crisp to it!
For the panini... I was torn. I liked the cheese they used on top. The combination of cheeses was wonderfully blended. The ciabatta bread however... seemed a bit stale (or makunat). I think it could've been toasted a bit. Or maybe it already was toasted... but it was just bad.
What saved the experience though was the Banana en Folie crepe we got. The best way to explain why I enjoyed this dish so much was that when you normally order crepes, they'd serve you a really small plate and that you wish you could enjoy more of it. Or if they do serve you one, they'd scrimp on the ingredients and barely put any bananas or Nutella inside. Not this one.
It just about the right amount of everything to ensure every bite you took was filled with flavour!
And oh... it had bits of bacon. That surprised me a lot. It gave you the occasional, "oh... that was interesting" moment while you ate.
I'm not entirely sure whether I'd visit La Provence again to attempt / hope to get a good panini, perhaps I may have better luck with that at Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf. But for sure I'd think of them again for the crepes. That's for sure at the very least!
