We paid another visit to The Grid at Rockwell because we wanted to check out this year's edition of Artefino. The first time we went, only a handful stalls were open, and many of them were still in soft opening mode. We arrived at The Grid around 2PM, and was expecting much less of a crowd, considering lunch was practically over.
Well, it wasn't the case entirely.
Some stalls still had quite a line. But in my case, I was curious to try Spanish by Rambla. A couple of days ago I ordered pintxos from Picada Tapeo to satiate my desire for Spanish cuisine. Thankfully, there wasn't any line at all.
The menu items appeared a bit pricey~ it hovered around Php 200 per pintxo. At other places, you could probably get a meal for the price of one pintxo here. But hey, it was supposed to be good... so I decided to find out for myself; I got three:
The first thing we tried was the Salmon and Truffle (Php 195) pintxo. Okay, this was really really good! The smoked salmon didn't taste too fishy... and it blended really well with the sweet truffle oil that accompanied the dish. I could eat several of these, honestly!
And somehow, I think the manner they rolled & organized these smoked salmon fillets over this slice of bread gave you layers of texture to enjoy. So this was a real pleasure to eat!
The chorizo al vino blanco (Php 180) left quite a strong impression, mainly because it wasn't overpowering, but you would appreciate the sweetness of the sautéed sliced bell peppers tucked underneath each sausage. To be honest, you probably may need to close your eyes a bit to take notice of it, since it's so subtle.
Morcilla y Manzanas (Php 195)~ this was the last item we tried. It had a bed of apples underneath. Again, it was so fascinating to eat. You get a bunch of complex flavours mixing in your mouth with every bite. The only challenge I had this with pintxo specifically was how it'd fall apart so easily (not entirely sure whether impaling it with a toothpick would've done the trick). The morcilla would roll away or the apple dices would fall off.
We had to cut it into 3 portions and fork our way through it. Probably a big no-no... but it was really a bit messy to eat. That said, it still tasted awesome!
So here it is again! Anyway, it money were no object I would've ordered all the pintxos on their menu. Next time, I'll probably review another set!
