The original plan was to grab a healthy dinner... so Sarah patiently waited for me at SaladStop. But I begged off the plan, as I wanted something a bit more distinct that salads or wraps. So we walked nearby Central Square... initially we thought of Ooma, but we wanted to explore something a little different from Japanese (as I had eaten Japanese at Sugi for lunch earlier in the day).
We found ourselves at Torch, and once we sat by the couch, you'd see on the menu that they specialised in sushi, pizza, and steak. That's quite an assortment, no?
So anyway, we decided on some salad to share, for her some sushi... while for me some fish!
Before our food arrived, the staff gave us deep friend pasta strand-crisps. I took one bite... while Sarah had quite a few. It was really easy to keep nibbling on these things. And since it's just in front of you, you'd end up munching on a number of these!
We ordered the Soft Shell Crab Salad (Php 299.95). We immediately recalled that the dish seemed familiar... and then we remembered that we apparently ordered the same dish, the last time we ate at Torch back in Greenbelt.
That said, it was good... just the way we remembered it. While I was eating the soft shell crab, I explained to Sarah that I only started eating soft shell crab in Singapore (like less than a couple years ago only). With exception to crablets, I really haven't eaten soft shell crabs coz I always end up eating the large ones. Anyway, that's just a piece of trivia~
Soon after, Sarah's order of the Cream Cheese Salmon Roll (Php 375.95) arrived. I was expecting one of those crazy-wild interpretations of sushi with all this batter and zigzag of Japanese mayo all over the dish. Well it was much, much simpler than that.
And you might wonder, does cream cheese and salmon go well together? Apparently it does. And I guess the crunchy external texture of the sushi complemented its soft, creamy core.
What took quite a while to arrive was my Seabass in Garlic Miso (Php 899.95). Okay, it was really pricey... but I just have to say, the seabass was really, really meaty. And by meaty, you'd really feel that you're digging in to something solid... but hey, it's fish! And the miso was good at the very least (yes, it had that umami factor that wakes up your brain)!
In place of rice, I asked them to replace it with even more vegetables. So yeah, they really went all out with the buttered string beans and carrots. Of course, it was so heavily buttered and savory that at the back of your end, you'd somehow think twice whether what you're eating is actually "healthy". Oh well... moving on!
Overall, I loved this seabass dish. We were saying towards the end that it must be truly satisfying and mega filling to order the seabass with rice, as it was originally intended. But for that price range, it was like ordering a steak.
Anyway, I still enjoyed my dinner there and I have little qualms about our orders in general. Perhaps next time I'd be more keen to try their pizza or even the steaks!
